Parent Teacher Association
J.J. Finley parents have a long tradition of supporting their PTA. Starting in the 1940's, the history of the PTA reflects the history of the different eras of the past. Our most famous fund raiser is parking cars on the school grounds during University of Florida football games. Being one of the smallest schools in the county, it has helped J.J. Finley stay current with technology and student curriculum. PTA Vision:
Our PTA is committed to combining the talents and energy of our parents, teachers and staff to positively effect the learning and social environment at J.J. Finley Elementary School.

Goals: This vision will be accomplished by focusing on the following:

  1. Seeking broad based membership and involvement from all members of our school community. This requires strong communication with all groups via direct contact, periodic newsletters, phone home and call us, SAC/PTA guide, the Open House and PTA general meetings.

  2. Enacting, whenever possible, concrete actions to implement our SAC goals.

  3. Provide resources and training to parents on educational, health and public safety topics.

  4. Continuing thoughtful fund raising to support direct teacher and staff needs including science supplies and computer equipment.

  5. Sponsor social interaction and appreciation via Finley Fun Day, skating parties, volunteer and teacher appreciation, yearbook, etc.

  6. Continue our efforts to secure funding for needed physical improvements. Ensure the safety issues surrounding our new construction are addressed appropriately.

  7. Support our county, state and national PTA's in their efforts to improve the status and funding of students and teachers to reflect the importance of schools in our society

The Finley PTA is known for strong support for the school. There are many projects supported by the PTA. These include: technology enhancement (computers and software), Finley Yearbook, Washington, D.C. Fifth Grade Safety Patrol trip, Media Center materials, supplemental classroom materials, playground renovations, science equipment and materials, and the Finley Flyer Newsletter.

J.J. Finley School Advisory Council
The School Advisory Council is composed of faculty, staff, parents, and community members who are nominated and elected by the J.J. Finley school community. The School Advisory Council works with shareholders (administrators, staff, parents, students, and other community representatives) to assist in development of the school improvement plan. The SAC also works collaboratively with administrators and staff to prioritize budget resource allocations and to provide input for the allocation of resources.
